Mathematics at Methley Primary School
Motivation + perseverance = success
At Methley Primary School, we teach our children a rich and progressive curriculum. To motivate our
children we ensure maths is fun and exciting! We know that by developing a child's ability to calculate,
to reason and to solve problems mathematically this will teach children how to make sense of the
world around them. In our school, we want to help children to understand and appreciate the pattern
in both number and space in their everyday lives, in and out of school. We encourage the children to
develop these key and fundamental skills through their growing knowledge and understanding of the
world. We want children to learn to respect and appreciate the contribution made by many people in
the development of mathematics in our ever growing society.
Educational maths games
Why should I play maths games with my child?
Children make progress best as mathematicians when they regularly repeat skills and practise them until they become embedded. This can be quite a long process sometimes, and so the use of the context of an exciting game or interesting activity can be highly motivating. In our experience, our children learn best when they are having fun and that's what games are for!
