School Day
A Day at Methley Primary School

Children should not arrive on school site before 8:30am and those in Foundation Stage to Year 4, should be closely supervised by parents/carers.

8:45am: Bell goes for start of school. Doors opened.Registration open.

8:50am: Doors close (all children who arrive after this will need to sign in at the school office and will receive a late mark). Registration closes.

3:15pm: End of school day.

This is a total of 32 hours.

Please ensure children arrive punctually. Many interventions, pre and post teach sessions take place in the first 15 minutes of the school day.

Please also ensure that children are collected promptly at the end of the day. Staff often have after school clubs or meetings to attend. External doors will be closed at 3:25pm. After that parents will need to sign their children out from the main office.

At the beginning of the school year, the end of day routine may take a little longer as staff get to know parents/carers. Please be patient- our priority is that the children are delivered to the correct adult.

Entry and Exit Points

All children will enter the school grounds using either the allotment gate or the main pedestrian gate. If possible, Year 5 and 6 should be dropped off at the gate.

Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2 will enter and exit their classroom from their usual doors.

Year 3 will enter through their usual entrance and exit through the hall doors.

Year 4 will enter and exit school through the door between Year 1 and 2.

Year 5 will enter school though the entrance on the KS2 playground.

Year 5SJ will exit school through the main office entrance. Year 5BS will exit through the entrance onto the KS2 playground.

Year 6 will enter through the entrance on KS2 playground but exit through the main office doors.

Please notify class teachers if children are permitted to walk home alone in Year 5 and 6. Because of this, these are the only children who are permitted to bring a mobile phone into school. Phones should not be used on school site and must be handed into class teachers at the beginning of the day.

Getting to and from school

Walking is definitely the best option! There are lots of benefits: it’s healthier than travelling by car, it improves the safety of pedestrians and road-users, and it respects nearby residents and parking regulations. Our gated entrance is for pedestrians, cyclists and scooter users. If you do need to travel by car, please park carefully and courteously.

We have cycle sheds to store bikes and scooter storage too. Children are required to wear helmets when coming to and from school on bikes and scooters. They should use only the paths when they are onsite and push bikes/scooters when on our school site. Bikes and scooters left on the school site remain the responsibility of parents.
